Menstrual cycle is one of the reproductive functions in the human body for women. A regular and proper menstrual cycle denotes that the female human being is healthy in general. Despite other factors that may or may not contribute to healthy reproductive functions, in most cases having a healthy menstrual cycle is seen as a good sign for reproductive health. Abnormal flow, absence of periods or extreme pain during periods may be sighted as unhealthy reproductive functions. Those who have abnormal periods or heavy flow can seek some comfort in Rio heavy flow pads that are made especially for those who have heavier flow through their menstrual cycle. It is possible that such people are victims of a disorder named Menorrhagia. This is a disorder that causes women to have abnormally high blood flow during their periods and rendering them completely helpless and weak during those days.

Abnormal Menstrual Periods

To classify something as abnormal, one must know what normal is – a normal menstrual period lasts 3 to 7 days and can vary from one person to another. Normal range for a period to occur varies from 21 days to 35 days, beyond which is considered slightly abnormal. Most women have pain and heavy flow in the first one or two days which eventually wears off by 3rd and 4th day. Even with periods, a woman is capable of functioning normally and completing personal chores. Excessive bleeding that lasts more than 2 days, excessive pain that lasts more than 2 or days, excessive weakness which renders the woman incapable of taking care of herself, or absence of periods can be termed as abnormal when it comes to the menstrual cycle. Even then, there are women who might have one or two such issues and still be perfectly healthy. These are just some exceptions but not the rule in itself.

Below are 4 types of abnormal menstrual periods often found amongst women:

1.Abnormally Heavy Flow (Menorrhagia)

This is the condition in which women often experience extremely heavy flow during their periods. It is classified as Menorrhagia if a woman has to use more than one pad per hour for several hours over one or two days. This often results in the patient getting extremely exhausted and with painful cramps. There are specially developed best heavy flow pads such as the Rio Heavy flow pads that can help women in such conditions by locking extra fluids and preventing leakage and staining for several hours

2.Absence of Periods (Amenorrhea)

Absence of periods is also abnormal as a healthy woman must undergo menstruation. There are several medical conditions where periods get skipped such as pregnancy, post pregnancy during lactation and due to hormonal imbalance in case of PCOS. It is best to get medical advice when it comes to missed periods due to hormonal imbalance as it can affect the health and alter fertility in the woman.

3.Extremely Painful Periods (Dysmenorrhea)

Extremely painful periods may be a sign of excess stress in the reproductive organs causing uncomfortable periods in women. Underlying conditions such as cysts, tumours or blocks in the ducts may cause painful periods and needs examination by a Gynaecologists

4.Very Less flow (Hypermenorrhea)

Very little period flow and very few days of periods is also not normal. In this case, there may be an underlying condition because of which there is no mentionable menstruation in woman and must be examined by a specialist.
