Recently, in Kozhikode in Kerala, Nipah Virus has been widely discussed due to the death of nearly a dozen people throughout the week. It is a virus that spreads through saliva of bats and its risk is both humans and animals. According to an alert released on Wednesday, the danger of this virus in West Bengal is also hampered, so people need to be cautious.
What is Nipah Virus?
According to the World Health Organization, WHO, Nippah is a new type of virus that is spreading both in humans and animals. The virus was first detected in Malaysia in 1998. At that time it was spread due to pigs. That is, pigs can also be carriers of Nipah virus. This virus is said to be the result of the death of two dogs in Malaysia during this virus infection. After this, in 2004, these viruses spread from the date tree in Bangladesh. Bats that spread the virus, which are called fruit bats, come from the Torpodai species. These are bats that stick to fruits at night and drink trees and plants. During this time the saliva of these bats infects the trees and fruits. There were also possible reasons for the virus spread in Bangladesh that during the climbing of an infected tree, there was an infection in the body of a person, i.e. the virus is so dangerous that one can make a person sick from touching a small part of the body. Nipah is a kind of infectious virus that spreads to another person by touching the patient and coming in contact with saliva. Therefore, this virus needs to be careful.
Symptoms of Nipah Virus Infection
As infections like infections, swelling occurs in the nerves of the patient’s brain by coming into the grip of Nipah virus. Within 5-14 days of exposure to the virus, the person begins to notice the symptoms of this disease. First of all, there is high fever and there is a problem of headache. Along with that, the patient starts having difficulty breathing. In many patients, the problem of swelling of the brain in the nerves comes and there is persistent pain in the muscles.
How dangerous is Nipah Virus?
Because the Nipah virus is new in India, its treatment and prevention is not known to most people. This lack of information makes this dangerous virus. Since this virus spreads by touching the patient and coming in contact with saliva, it is extremely dangerous. Within 24 to 48 hours of symptoms, this virus can be reached in the condition of a coma, because the effect of this virus is rapid on the nerves of the brain and swelling begins to occur.
Treatment of Nipah Virus
The bats we are talking about are carriers of that i.e. they spread these viruses and they are not the reason. Since its causes are not detected, no vaccine has been detected for Nipah virus. However, due to the risks of viruses, patients with this virus can be cured through supportive care. As this virus spreads through touching, the arrangement of preventing the infection in the hospital has to be tightened even during the treatment of this disease, or doctors and nurses who are treating can also be in the grip of this virus. However, with some precautions, this virus can be saved from spreading.
